Kashyapa and Kadruva (Husband and wife in snake form) curse their children to get burnt in fire. Anantha, one among the children performs a penance to Lord Vishnu to save him from the curse.
Pleased by the penance ,Lord Vishnu appears,saves Anantha and gives a boon that the place will become famous and will be called as " Sarpavaram ". Anantha is also blessed to become bed, on which Lord Vishnu lies.
